Develop your skills on banjo, dobro, fiddle, guitar, or mandolin through private and/or group lessons with our American Roots Studies faculty. We offer instruction in the musical genres of Bluegrass, Old-time, Blues, and Swing. Learn tunes in private or semi-private lessons, then attend the community jams to hone your skills in a safe and supportive environment.

Learn to Jam
In this class you will practice the Old-time and Bluegrass skills you have been learning with your private instructor or on your own and gain experience playing in a community jam setting. Led by professional players, this class will explore improvisation, chord use and comprehension, creation of variations on melodies, and performing within the community in a safe and encouraging setting. Build a body of repertoire that you can take to any picking session around!

Fiddling from Scratch – NEW this year!
Fiddling From Scratch is a beginning fiddle class for all ages. Learn how to hold the violin and bow, play in three different keys, and get a couple of easy fiddle tunes under your fingers. In this class you will explore rhythm and harmony and begin to understand different styles of fiddling. No experience necessary.
