This course will cover the repertoire of the master composers for viola da gamba consort. Stringed instruments and any Baroque or Renaissance instruments welcome. Pitch (A=415 or 440) to be determined.

Acquire a degree of comfort with the viola da gamba in a short amount of time. Instruments (trebles, tenors, and basses) are available to take home and practice. Some musical background is helpful but not required. The Winter/Spring term will build upon the material covered in the Fall term, but joining mid-year is possible with instructor approval.

The settings of “Lachrimae” by Dowland are some of the richest chamber music by Renaissance composers. Learn to play his music using the appropriate baroque style. His songs will be explored as well. Singers and players of stringed instruments and guitars are welcome. Pitch (A=415 or 440) to be determined.
